Architecture & Geometry
For my final project, I decided to do architecture photography and to incorporate my architectural knowledge and craftsmanship into photography. I am interested in different types of forms and contemporary modern architecture. For this project, I thoroughly researched a number of architectural forms. Once I selected my best works from my camera, I worked on my 3D models that reflect certain geometric forms. And then, I laser cut and folded different materials and made 3D models that reflect certain shapes in my architecture photography. I also incorporated models that I made for my architecture course into my 3D model photographs; since they speak the same language, it created a sense of harmonization.
This entire semester I was interested in organic forms and curves, and for both my Architecture course and Photography course, I was striving to create or capture the beautiful natural curves. Incorporating 3D modeling and photography into my work was a great idea. It further developed my interest in geometric and organic forms and how they work in Photography with a variety of factors such as contrast, saturation, and so on.
I visited a variety of places in the city to get my architecture photography, and my focus was on interesting geometries. It was such an eye-opening experience to see sleek lines, curves, and closed geometries that are composed of different materials such as glass, stucco, steel, and concrete. Above all, paying close attention to those geometric shapes helped my understanding in Architectural photography.
I decided to mute colors in my photography so the only focus is on the forms of the geometries. Therefore, I turned most of my photography into black and white, however, for skyscrapers, I wanted to accentuate certain parts of my skyscraper photographs with colors. So I chose one color, which should not be too distracting but still does the function of accentuation.
