Escaping New York

I did not grow up in a major city. In fact, many of my earliest and fondest childhood memories come from very rural environments - or as I like to call it, the country. While I have well adapted to the fast-paced lifestyle that is emblematic of New York City and there are aspects of the city that I love, I often find myself wishing to be, well, anywhere else. This project seeks to explore and represent my experiences of being in New York physically, while my mind continued to wander elsewhere. The collection of images below are scenes from my everyday life as a college student living in New York, but modified using composite images that are distinctly not part of my daily New York experience. Most of the examples below are mental pictures I’ve had long before I knew anything about photography, let alone working in Photoshop. I hope you enjoy the collection of images I have created, and that maybe they help you with a much needed escape of your own.
